About this workshop
What the day looks like
Ask ten SME founders why an investor passed, and nine point to the market. The tenth reason is usually the real one, kept quiet: a spreadsheet with holes nobody had patched. This is the room where yours gets patched — before an investor finds them.
Most financial literacy sessions hand you a glossary and call it readiness. This one sits you down with your own Sales Register and makes you find your own profit — because that part takes a full working day, not a slide. Every method is tested immediately, on your own numbers, before the next one starts.
No accounting background is checked at the door. What matters is whether you are willing to open your own books in front of people who will ask harder questions about them than any investor eventually will.
Run of the day
Hour by hour
- 09:00
Opening the file
Locate exactly where your business sits against the seven gaps that most often stall an SME's funding conversation — and identify which one has quietly been yours.
- 09:30
Sales, profit, cash: three numbers, not one
Most founders run all three together in their head. Split them apart here, and see why financial health starts shifting months before it ever looks like a crisis.
- 10:15
Your Income Statement, off your own registers
B2C or B2B, the process is identical: pull your real profit out of your own Sales and Purchase Register, live, with someone checking the work as you go.
- 11:15
Cash Flow: following the money your profit left behind
Convert your Cash Book into an actual Cash Flow statement, and finally see, in writing, why a profitable month can still end with an empty account — especially in B2B.
- 12:45
Lunch, on us
Facilitators stay in the room through lunch, working one-on-one with anyone whose numbers are still pushing back.
- 13:45
Working Capital: what your receivables are quietly costing you
Receivable, Payable and Inventory turned into your actual Working Capital Gap and Cash Conversion Cycle — measured in the days your own cash spends stuck outside your business.
- 14:45
Reading ratios the way an investor does
The handful of ratios that decide a yes or no before a meeting properly starts — and how catching them early buys you months to fix what is wrong.
- 16:00
A real SME's books, opened live
Diagnose an actual case: find the problem hiding inside the numbers, then walk through the funding and business decisions that follow from it.
- 17:00
VAT & tax, without the usual confusion
The core concepts, the mistakes SMEs repeat without noticing, and the habits that keep a business ready for scrutiny every month of the year.
- 17:45
Closing the file
Certificate, community access, and a one-page snapshot of exactly where your business's numbers stand today — the baseline every future decision gets measured against.
What you take home
Yours to keep after the day
- Your own Income Statement, Cash Flow and Working Capital figures — rebuilt and dated, not sample data
- A Financial Ratio reference sheet — the short list investors actually check first
- A VAT & Tax checklist — built around the mistakes SMEs repeat most often
- A one-page Investment Readiness Snapshot — signed, dated, yours to carry into any meeting
- Certificate of Participation
- 30 days of private community access
Who this is for
- SME founders actively raising, or about to, who have never been shown what an investor is really checking
- MSME and mid-level owners who run the business by feel and have never sat down with their own ratios
- Founders whose bank balance and profit-and-loss statement seem to disagree most months
- Anyone who has left a funding meeting carrying more questions than they walked in with
What to bring
- Sales Register, Purchase Register and Cash Book — soft or hard copy, messy is fine
- A calculator or a laptop
- One real question about your own business you have never gotten a straight answer to
